Mr. B's, while not as well-known as other establishments in the region, is a local fast food joint worth a visit. Their specialty? Hot roast beef sandwiches, far better than Arby's. They also have subs, with "potato nuggets" (tater tots) as a side item. I grew up 10 minutes from the place and we got takeout from here often when I was little. The place is usually busy and the locals keep coming back in droves to support the family-run business.

The food is simple, and that is what makes it good. It's just a roast beef sandwich, but it's fresh and made in house. With a sandwich like this, you wonder how Arby's gets away with selling the weird product it calls roast beef. The building is straight out of the 60s, which is when the place opened. You know the food is good if a restaurant survives for 50 years. Indeed, this was one of the first restaurants in a now-bustling commercial strip. There are a few great places to eat in the Glens Falls area, but Mr. B's shouldn't be overlooked just because it's "fast food".

Through pure dumb luck, I arrived when Mr B was giving away a free lunch in honor of his 50th anniversary. I had a small drink, tots and a small Mixed Giant sub; all were A-OK but I have to add a star for the generosity and the obvious bond with the regular customers who were stopping by.

But, where's the Beef? I paid for this one, a beef sandwich on a kaiser roll with cheddar spread/squirt. I am finally ready to say (after trying to get excited about Beef on Weck out west and experimenting with other NEBA relics), that I find this a boring concept. The bun is soft, the thin sliced beef is tender, but where's the taste? Condiments and doctoring are needed.

At Phillipe's in downtown LA, I found that a generous amount of extremely spicy Coleman's mustard on their French dip did the trick. Here, I would actually suggest you order beef in the sub sandwich category where it comes with lettuce, tomato and onions.(I actually transferred said condiments from my Mixed Giant and also added a squirt or more of horseradish mayo.)

Beef is kind of dry so be prepared to put on a sauce or order some au jus. Prices are decent for what you get. The potato nuggets are seasoned well.

Wow....I must say, this is a nice surprise tucked between a McDonald's , pizza joint and Panera.

The atmosphere is dated but I was on a mission for roast beef.

I ordered the supreme roast beef sandwich (LTO and Russian)

The bun was warm and stacked with nice cuts of roast beef.

This is a great place to pull off the northway and get a quick bite. It's basic, simple and hits the spot. I will be returning.
